My Sony home theater system wont change from analog to digital?

Hello, I have a sony str k670p digital reciever and I hooked up the digital optical wire but on the selection button where your suppose to be able to change from analog to digital it is grayed out / I read the manual and it says if grayed out it is not selectable, I have a digital tv and digital cable box and receiver w/ the digital wire, how do I get it to change to digital instead of analog? Thanks for your help.

What is the digital wire hooked up to on the other end, besides the receiver?
My guess is that it is not receiving any digital signal, such as a DVD player, CD player, etc.

  1. It looks like only the dvd or cd inputs allow for digital connection on that receiver. Try connecting the cable box directly to the receiver using the optical cable and setting the cd (or dvd) input to optical. If this works, you’ll now have to set your receiver to cd (or dvd) mode to hear the cable box but it’s the only way (if it works).
