i have a 5.1 home theater system of "Altech Lansing" but on most CD's and MP3 sound tracks only 3 speaker work?

only the sub-woofer and the right and left front speakers work, while the other 3 dont when I play audio CD's and MP3 songs

You are only hearing 2 channel stereo because music is recorded in 2 channels. Many receivers will allow you to dump the stereo mix and allow you to have all music play in all 5 speakers. Just mess with the listening modes and you should be able to find something like an "all channel" setting.
